Called by Artforum "one of the great cellists," Charles Curtis (b. 1960, Laguna Beach, California) has woven a unique career through the worlds of classical performance and experimental music, creating a new body of work for solo cello via his extensive collaborations with pioneers of new music La Monte Young, Éliane Radigue, and Alvin Lucier, among others. Since 2000, Curtis has taught at UCSD.
